Day 2 | Quishuarani – Condor Pass – Cancha Cancha
The Most Challenging Day of the Trek
After an energizing breakfast, we begin the longest and most demanding day of the Lares Trek 4 days. The trail leads northeast through a beautiful valley dotted with traditional stone houses with thatched roofs, offering a glimpse of authentic Andean life.
After a gentle 30-minute walk, we start a challenging 2.5-hour ascent to Pachacutec Pass (4,700 m / 15,419 ft), the highest point of the trek. From here, the panoramic views of the snow-capped Pitusiray mountains and the surrounding Andean peaks are simply breathtaking.
We then follow a narrow trail for about 1 hour until reaching an isolated area surrounded by pristine glacial lakes, where we stop for a well-deserved lunch. In the afternoon, the trek continues with a scenic descent into the next valley, passing by seven cascading waterfalls, before arriving at Cancha Cancha, our overnight campsite.
