Itinerary
Day 1 Cusco – Waqrapukara - Cusco
04:00 – 05:30 | Hotel Pickup – Drive to Cusipata – Breakfast
The adventure begins early in the morning when our representative picks you up from your accommodation in Cusco at 4:00 a.m.
From there, we travel south toward the small town of Cusipata, where you will enjoy a local breakfast to prepare for the day’s hike.
The restaurants in this area are run by local communities and offer simple but authentic meals. During this stop you will also have the opportunity to purchase snacks, drinks, sunscreen, or small souvenirs if needed.
06:00 – 08:00 | Cusipata – Sangarara – Start of the Hike
After breakfast, we continue our journey through beautiful Andean landscapes.
Along the way we will make a brief stop to admire Pomacanchi Lake, one of the largest lakes in the Cusco region and an important natural attraction in the southern valley.
We then continue toward the village of Sangarara, where we take a detour leading to the starting point of the hike to Waqrapukara.
08:00 – 11:00 | Hike and Explore Waqrapukara
At the trailhead, your guide will provide instructions and safety recommendations before beginning the hike.
The hike to Waqrapukara takes approximately 2 hours, following scenic trails surrounded by dramatic canyon landscapes and high Andean vegetation.
Unlike the well-developed paths of Machu Picchu, this trail maintains a more natural environment without tourist infrastructure such as railings or stairways. This allows visitors to fully immerse themselves in the raw beauty of the Andes.
Upon arrival, you will explore the fascinating Waqrapukara Archaeological Complex, learn about its history and mythology, and enjoy plenty of time to take photos and admire the spectacular views of the surrounding valleys and cliffs.
13:00 – 19:00 | Lunch and Return to Cusco
After exploring the site, we will gather at a scenic spot to enjoy a box lunch surrounded by breathtaking mountain views.
Following lunch, we begin the return hike toward the vehicle, which takes approximately 3 hours.
During the walk back you will continue enjoying the peaceful natural environment, the impressive mountains, and the beautiful contrast between the green landscapes and the deep blue Andean sky.
Finally, we return to Cusco, arriving at approximately 7:00 p.m.
