Itinerary
Day 1 Cusco – Chonta - Cusco
08:00 a.m. – Hotel Pickup in Cusco
Your adventure begins with pickup from your hotel in the historic center of Cusco. From there, we start our journey toward the Limatambo Valley, enjoying beautiful views of the Andean landscapes along the way.
09:30 a.m. – Visit to Killarumiyoq Archaeological Site
Our first stop is Killarumiyoq, an important ceremonial site dedicated to the Moon deity. Here you will observe impressive carved rock formations and learn about the Inca rituals related to lunar worship and fertility. The area also features a small waterfall and peaceful natural surroundings.
10:30 a.m. – Visit to Tarawasi Archaeological Site
We continue to Tarawasi, another fascinating Inca site known for its finely crafted polygonal stone walls. Your guide will explain the architectural precision of the Inca civilization and the historical significance of this complex.
11:30 a.m. – Scenic Drive toward Huayroncca and Chonta
After exploring the archaeological sites, we continue driving toward the community of Chonta, passing through the Huayroncca Bridge. Along the route, we will enjoy spectacular panoramic views of the Limatambo Valley and the impressive Salkantay Mountain in the distance, with opportunities to stop for photos.
01:00 p.m. – Lunch in the Chonta Community
Upon arrival in Chonta, we will enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant while taking in stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
02:00 p.m. – Hike to the Chonta Condor Viewpoint
After lunch, we begin a scenic hike of approximately 45 minutes along a trail that leads to the Chonta Condor Viewpoint, located at about 3,340 meters (10,958 ft) above sea level.
03:00 p.m. – Condor Watching at Apurímac Canyon
From the viewpoint overlooking the impressive Apurímac Canyon, we will wait for the majestic Andean condors that frequently glide through the canyon during the afternoon. Watching these enormous birds soar through the sky—sometimes with wingspans of up to 3 meters (10 feet)—is one of the most memorable wildlife experiences in the Andes.
05:00 p.m. – Return Hike and Departure to Cusco
After enjoying the condor observation and taking photos, we hike back to the Chonta community and begin our return journey to Cusco.
08:00 p.m. – Arrival in Cusco
We expect to arrive back in the city of Cusco at approximately 8:00 p.m., where we will drop you off near your hotel.
